* This unique book brings together a determined group of school staff, multi-agency workers and academic partners who joined forces with resident families and critical friends to push back against child poverty in Wales, especially the problems of its ongoing influence on schooling success. This team uses local research intel to develop local solutions that reflect a peculiarly Welsh notion of 'school-community development', which takes account of the politics and policy frameworks in Wales including the tensions between progressive national policies that tout a social democratic social imaginary and those that advance neo-liberal logics. This book analyses and interrogates current policies and endeavours to combat child poverty in Wales and builds on the research intelligence of the Welsh Government Children First needs assessment on Trem y Mynydd and take inspiration from the BERA [British Educational Research Association] Research Commission on Poverty & Policy Advocacy, and our intention is to effect actions in this place to show that it is ready for scale-up in the other Children First areas, then across Wales, then across transnational and international borders to combat child poverty.
