Author and attorney Randall Scott Johns argued in the US District Court for the Virgin Islands that the broadcast media should be permitted into the federal judiciary to expose the intellectual dishonesty of the judicial system. The brotherhood of lawyers and federal judges pushed back against him, finding him in contempt of court and revoking his license to practice law in the USVI. He appealed the ruling of contempt up to the US Supreme Court.About the same time, Johns fell in love with a native Virgin Islander and was required to get consent from the bishop of Saint Thomas to receive Holy Communion during their wedding. Johns was baptized a Christian in the Evangelical United Brethren Church, and his wife-to-be was baptized a Christian in the Roman Catholic Church. The bishop granted consent, and Johns continued to receive communion. Then he had a falling out with the new bishop of Saint Thomas who publicly announced non-Roman Catholics were not welcome to receive Holy Communion. After communicating with the Vatican, Johns traveled to Rome and requested an audience with the pope.In The Messiah Complex, Johns tells his story and how he unraveled the life lessons. He offers insight on how society can bridge the gap between the linear thinking of this world with the abstract thinking of religion and natural law.
