Nor can it be taught by hap-hazard appeals in which the pupil is urged to imitate the emphasis and inflections of his teacher. On the contrary, it depends on definite, ascertainable principles, which, when clearly formulated, progressively arranged, and suitably illustrated, may be taught by the same meth ods that are followed in other departments of in ductive knowledge, and with the same assurance of determinate success.
