Whilst the greatest effort has been made to ensure the quality of this text, due to the historical nature of this content, in some rare cases there may be minor issues with legibility. The subject, therefore, to be illustrated, being of equal importance to all persons in the more educated circles of Society, the Lecturer throws himself, without other pretensions, upon the discernment: and liberality of an enlightened public. Exclusively devoted, during the last six Years, to the cultivation of Polite Literature, and to the Improvement of his Native Language, in particular, he solicits ap. Probation upon no other basis than the utility of the Science he pro fesscsz - ancl, while endeavouring to awaken attention to an essential, tho neglected accomplishment (to which the Nations of Antiquity Were indebted for so large a portion of their Intelleftual Glory) he relies, with confidence, on the growing attachrrtent of the Community to the cultivation of every useful Science, for that candid and impartial patronage, Without which, Science can never be expanded, or the arts of civilizationimprovcd. Such, alone, are his views and his pretentious, and upon these he has not, hitherto, relied in vain. The success with which his efforts have been fostered in all the principal neighbourhoods of an extensive tract of Country, from Worcester and Birmingham to the Tweed, emboldens him to give more general circulation to the extended ourlineof his plan; and to announce his intention of visiting, in his present character, all the more populous Towns of the Nation.
