Whilst the greatest effort has been made to ensure the quality of this text, due to the historical nature of this content, in some rare cases there may be minor issues with legibility. Round, and Sir James Ramsay, by no means acknow edge all the obligations of the writer to their labours. But the book is based throughout upon the original authorities. Although the great chronicles of the period have been sifted over and over again by expert critics, there remain many sources, both narrative and documentary, which for one reason or another have been imperfectly utilised in previous works.
