Whilst the greatest effort has been made to ensure the quality of this text, due to the historical nature of this content, in some rare cases there may be minor issues with legibility. This volume concludes the works of Prof. Henry Grosvenor Cary. The Cary Family in England, published a year ago, gave a fair View of our ancestors across the sea; this volume continues the life of the family here in America. With these two volumes there is laid a foundation for serious work, on both sides the Atlantic. The last word has not been said or written concerning either branch, and will not be for many a long day to come, so it is now the time for research patient, continuous. With a fairly liberal base as a point of departure, the filling in by the various lines and branches is the work now before us all. No one person can do this, but only the united, concentrated effort of us all can accomplish what is really our share in the extension and perfecting of the history of an illustrious family. The transplanting to this virgin soil has not spoiled the prestige of the past, although it has possibly changed the direction of the effort. T o be noble, purposeful and aggressive in all good work, is the simple but mighty task that is laid at our feet. The Bulletins sent out by The John Cary Descend ants will be the open door through which our work must now be continued: If these are properly sustained, the time will not be long before the supreme effort must be put forth in a new edition of the Cary Memorials, issued by our pioneer in family history - Gen. Samuel Fenton Cary in 1874. That great work, made at a time when there was far less interest than now, is practically the leading source of information.
