The fate of kingdoms, the progress of civilization, the welfare of the whole human race has turned upon the question whose son is he? If it shall be said that ordinarily it seems to make but little difference whose blood we carry in our veins, I answer we do not know, and therefore I have determined, after postponing the matter to a very late day in life to inquire into the genealogy of the Pardee family, with what success will appear as we proceed and with consequences to be left to the future to determine.<br><br>I have at present 36 living lineal descendants and think I ought be able to tell them something about their ancestors. In making my inquiries, I have been sometimes almost provoked to find that family records were so difficult of access, and so few transmitted from one generation to another, but confess that the success I have had in unearthing these old papers has been attended with compensating pleasure.
