Whilst the greatest effort has been made to ensure the quality of this text, due to the historical nature of this content, in some rare cases there may be minor issues with legibility. Southern Heroes, a book published since the war, setting forth the stand taken by Friends, who would endure persecution rather than go forth to slay their fellow man. I also have a little tract issued by the New York Yearly Meet ing, entitled: A Brief View of the Doctrines of Friends, which I shall use. The Quakers have done much for the Christian world in preaching that the baptism of the Holy Spirit is essential to salvation, and that at all times, and under all circumstances, they should seek to be guided by the Holy Spirit; hence, when they assemble for worship, they wait in silence before the Lord until they shall feel that he has given them a message to deliver to the people. It was this belief in the guidance of the Holy Spirit and this silent waiting before the Lord that gave rise to the saying that the Quakers are waiting for the Spirit to move them.
