Whilst the greatest effort has been made to ensure the quality of this text, due to the historical nature of this content, in some rare cases there may be minor issues with legibility. Desirous of seeing something of the British possessions in India, I visited the three presidencies, therefore did not reach England until the end of March, which circumstance has delayed the publi cation of this book three months longer than I could have wished.
