Mr friends have asked me to give some account of the adventures of the recent English Mission to the King of Abyssinia, with which I had the honour to be entrusted. As I only propose to write a personal narrative, and not a political treatise, I trust that they will be content with the bare story of our journey to and from the camp of the King, added to a very brief description of the country through which we passed and of the people with whom we came into contact.
