Whilst the greatest effort has been made to ensure the quality of this text, due to the historical nature of this content, in some rare cases there may be minor issues with legibility. This work is not intended as a history, although it contains several valuable articles that will be found of great historical interest and value. The author was led to publish this work, after his return from a brief visit to Bermuda, during the winter season, and although he had seen many lovely spots in his travels, yet the glorious beauty of these islands was a revelation to him. The many hills clothed in perpetual verdure, set in a trans parent sea, the great profusion of flowers, and, as far as the eye could reach, one stretch of unbroken bloom and verdure were unsurpassed. Here rose the tall shaft of a stately palm, there the spreading fans of the palmetto, and the slender spires of the sway ing bamboo, with many other tropical trees and shrubs. Now you drive over a hard smooth road, winding through the most picturesque scenery, and every new view that bursts upon you is a surprise. It is needless to say more, only that the writer hopes to visit Bermuda again, the quiet restful life, the wondrous beauty of a land so different to the one we northerners inhabit, all make such a welcome change from our busy life at home.
