Whilst the greatest effort has been made to ensure the quality of this text, due to the historical nature of this content, in some rare cases there may be minor issues with legibility. It will be seen from my commentary in Chapter III that the arrangement of specimens in my plates is tentative and intended to be not too definite in many instances. I often suggest that a seal or group of seals may belong more appropriately to a different place in the series than that in which it is actually figured. In the present stage such fluidity of arrangement seems to me inevitable.
