No one, how ever, publishes a book, without supposing that it may possibly be of some use; and the following pages were originally composed as an attempt to meet a deficiency which still exists amongst us, the want of a treatise strictly elementary, and adapted to the use of younger students, but entering sufficiently into the principles of the science, to awaken the learners curiosity, and prepare him for a more enlarged and intellectual prosecution of the subject.
