Whilst the greatest effort has been made to ensure the quality of this text, due to the historical nature of this content, in some rare cases there may be minor issues with legibility. Such were the sentiments that induced Father Martin von Cochem to write this book. He was born in the vil lage of Cochem, Germany, from which he takes his name, in 1630. Joining, at an early age, the Order of Capu chins, he devoted himself, after his ordination to the priesthood, most assiduously to the salvation of souls. The Thirty Years' War, terminating in 1648, left the people deplorably demoralized, and to counteract, as much as was within his power, the evil influences of his time, he devoted himself, in addition to his pastoral duties, to the writing of pious books in a popular style. He died in 1712. His best and most popular work was the Life and Sufferings of Our Lord Jesus Christ and His Mother Mary, of which this volume is an abridg ment and rearrangement.
