It is generally agreed that Paul wrote the Epistle to the Romans at Corinth, during his third missionary tour. The proofs are these: First, according to xv. 25, the writer is just starting for Jerusalem, with money which has been con tributed for the poor saints which are at Jerusalem; this collection was completed at Corinth, as appears from 1 Cor. Xvi. 1 - 3; 2 Cor. Ix. Secondly, The Epistle is sent by the hands of Phoebe from Cenchrea, the port of Corinth, xvi. 1. Thirdly, Paul's host is Gaius, and Gaius was a citizen of Corinth, xvi. 23; 1 Cor. I. 14. Fourthly, Erastus sends a greeting by Paul, xvi. 23, and Erastus lived at Corinth, 2 Tim. Iv. 20.
