Whilst the greatest effort has been made to ensure the quality of this text, due to the historical nature of this content, in some rare cases there may be minor issues with legibility. The interest in Jesus of Nazareth seems to grow from more to more. Each succeeding age discovers in him some fresh attraction, or re interprets in accordance with its own needs aspects of his life and teaching which appealed to former times. In an age of criticism such as ours it is inevitable that much is called in question which once went unchallenged. Hence it need occasion no surprise if Christianity is asked to give an account of itself. In such a case the task of the Christian apologist is not to denounce but to discuss - to indicate that historical criticism is a means of defence and not a mere instrument of attack. Accord ingly this little book attempts to deal suggestively rather than exhaustively with the important issue raised in recent critical works. It is written in the sincere hope that it may prove helpful to some who believe with the writer that the historic personality of Jesus is fundamental to Christian faith.
