Whilst the greatest effort has been made to ensure the quality of this text, due to the historical nature of this content, in some rare cases there may be minor issues with legibility. The professors presided in turn, and were called upon to speak in the inverse order of seniority, the professor presiding for the day coming last. For many years, the discussion was opened by re marks volunteered by the students, but in later times, the entire hour has been occupied by the professors. The historical character of this remarkable service is of course de rived from the peerless endowments, intellectual and Spiritual, of the first three professors in the institution. Men so different, yet together constituting such a singular completeness of excellence by the combi nation of their complementary graces.
