I and it came to pass after the death of Moses the servant of the Eternal, that the Eternal said unto Joshua the son of Nun, 2 Moses' minister, as follows, Moses my servantis dead; now therefore arise, pass over this Jordan, thou, and all this people, unto the land which I do give to them, even to the 3 children of Israel. Every place that the sole1 of your foot shall tread upon, that have I given unto you, as I spake unto 4 Moses. From the desert and this Lebanon even unto the great river, the river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites. And unto the great sea towards the going down2 of the sun, 5 shall be your boundary. There shall not any man be able to stand3 before thee all the days of thy life: as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee I will not fail thee, nor for 6 sake thee. Be strong and firm: for unto this people shalt thou divide for an inheritance the land, which I sware unto 7 their fathers to give them. Only'be thou strong and very firm, that thou mayest observe4 to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded thee: depart not from it to the right or to the left, that thou mayest act 8 wisely whithersoever thou goest. This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate.
