Whilst the greatest effort has been made to ensure the quality of this text, due to the historical nature of this content, in some rare cases there may be minor issues with legibility. In my boyhood I often spent a day or night with some neighbor boy, and as white boys in those days were fond of going out to the cabins to hear the negroes talk I, like the others, saw into a great many negro cabins and had good opportuni ties for studying negro character and habits. In those days most of the negroes had more liberty without freedom than they now have with freedom.
