Whilst the greatest effort has been made to ensure the quality of this text, due to the historical nature of this content, in some rare cases there may be minor issues with legibility. The great revival which has taken place in the study and appreciation of the Science of Heraldry, and the wider and more intelligent interest now taken in armory, has induced the publisher to issue a new and revised edition of this work. This Opportunity has been taken to enlarge and improve the Dictionary of Heraldic Terms, and to cut out much of the repetition which was contained in the opening chap ters of the previous editions. The Space thus gained has been used to give a larger and, in the light of modern research, more correct view of the Origin of Arms, and to add chapters on the Law and Right to Arms and on the Heraldic Executive. The chapter formerly given on Precedence has been entirely superseded by inserting the tables now in use in England and in Scotland, and the whole book has been so revised and rewritten as to form practically a new work.
