Whilst the greatest effort has been made to ensure the quality of this text, due to the historical nature of this content, in some rare cases there may be minor issues with legibility. Although Schwab would be the first to dis avow a professional status in anthropology, he has read widely in his own field and is a keen and experienced observer of native char acter, customs, arts, and industries. While he is most intimately acquainted with the Bulu tribe of the Cameroun, it seemed to us, when we were planning an expedition to Liberia, that George Schwab and Mrs. Schwab (always his efficient collaborator) were best fitted to conduct the project. The present volumes are a part of the results of that expedition.
