Under one end of them was a darkish passage through which you passed to the ship-yards, to be welcomed by a colony of rooks who tenanted some tall elms which flourished at the further end of it, and to be confronted by the Stocks which there awaited all evil-doers. The site of the present railway station was Mr. Barry's ship-yard, while his dock and that of Mr. Hobkirk lay beyond it.
