Psychological Perspectives on Empowerment opens with a discussion aiming to show how open source software communities indeed nurture empowerment in several senses. However, the authors also show that open source software communities pose several challenges to empowerment. As an example, numerous usability interventions in open source software development are analyzed, in which usability practitioners have offered their expertise.
