Problems and Prospects of American-East Asian Relations e-bog

This issue-oriented, multidisciplinary approach to American-East Asian relations asks provocative questions and presents a thoughtful appraisal of the situation today. Using a wide range of sources-among them, recently declassified government documents-the authors examine U.S. relations with China, Japan, and Korea. Issues discussed include the"e;new policy"e; toward the People's Republic of China (Was there, in fact, a sudden shift in U.S. policy?); the attitudes of the American people and Congress toward the Republic ofChina; the friction between the United States and Japan and the implications of the existing imbalance in trade between the two countries; and the potential for continuing and increasing problems in U.S.-Korean relations. Throughout, the authors present an analysis of past and current conditions as a tool for use in formulating sound, effective policy for the future.
