Should the United States Supreme Court, the highest court in the United States and one of the most powerful judicial bodies in the world, abide by a uniform and binding set of ethics rules? Federal courts wrote and adopted an ethics code to bind themselves to better conduct but that code does not apply to the Supreme Court. If the justices of the Supreme Court will not act to safeguard their constitutional responsibilities as impartial judicial officers, then it is up to Congress to make laws governing the Supreme Court. Under prevailing interpretations of the Constitution and longstanding historical practice, Supreme Court Justices enjoy life tenure. Chapter 2 discusses proposals to alter Supreme Court Justices' tenure. Congress could consider whether to impose an age or a term limit, as well as how long the Justices' tenure will last. Chapter 3 offers an overview of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson's jurisprudence. It reviews broad areas of judicial philosophy that may apply in many cases, such as constitutional interpretation, statutory interpretation, and stare decisis.
