Whilst the greatest effort has been made to ensure the quality of this text, due to the historical nature of this content, in some rare cases there may be minor issues with legibility. It is probable that there were other practitioners of medicine during the first hundred years of our history; but these are all that appear, after consider able research, until we pass well on into the eighteenth century. The names of less than forty physicians are known as coming to the entire prov ince of New York in the course of the seventeenth century, and of most of these but little more is known than their names. The various lineage of these here mentioned, coming as they probably did chiefly from Holland, shows how that country was then the asylum for people of all nationalities.
