Only such descriptions of instruments are given as are essential to the type of instrument and are involved in its mathematical theory. General facts are considered from a numerical or geometrical point of view. A special point has been made of the elementary mathe maties Of the electric discharge in vacuum tubes and of radioactivity. Enough is given to make some of the popular treatises really intelligible.
