Whilst the greatest effort has been made to ensure the quality of this text, due to the historical nature of this content, in some rare cases there may be minor issues with legibility. Wood turpentine can be recovered from any of the coniferous woods. Those which have been found to contain sufficient resin to justify working them are the long-leaf yellow pine, of the South, the Norway pine of the Central North, and the Douglas fir of the North west. The methods by which wood turpentine is recovered may be appropriately divided into three classes, (a) destructive distillation methods, (b) steam distillation methods, (a) extraction with solvents.
