Vaccines and current medications are being tested in a variety of clinical trials to develop a cure for COVID-19. Plant-based compounds, in addition to the various synthetic chemical compounds, could provide a variety of viable possibilities for testing against the virus. Many plants have been shown to have antiviral properties whether used as crude extracts or as their active components in pure form in studies. The aim of the book is to emphasise the significance of phytomedicine in the fight against COVID-19. The mechanistic elements of the most important phytochemical compounds that have shown potential against SARS-CoV-2 are also covered in this book. Phytochemicals have been shown to suppress coronaviruses via mechanisms such as viral entry inhibition, inhibition of replication enzymes and virus release blockage. Phytomedicine is less well understood mechanistically than synthetic medications. Therefore, it should be studied thoroughly before use. Phytochemicals, on the other hand, make drug discovery less arduous and give a faster alternative to drug testing. Plant-based medications should be incorporated in COVID-19 therapeutic development alongside other drugs now being investigated against the virus.
