This compilation of twelve essays brings together for the first time the statements of eight eminent Church leaders on the sacraments and the sacramental life of the Church. Each essay is an exemplary piece of theological thought and exposition, beautifully written and complete in itself. Each chapter may be used separately for study; thus, the book can provide material for several years of group study. The introduction by Canon Landon outlining what a sacrament is sets the background for the comprehensive papers of the eight contributors, who originally prepared this material for the School of Worship of the Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine, New York, during 1956-60.
