Whilst the greatest effort has been made to ensure the quality of this text, due to the historical nature of this content, in some rare cases there may be minor issues with legibility. Q] In this article the methods of hand molding have been carefully discussed, including the many questions of pattern construction which are more or less closely associated with foundry work. The presentation also includes the uses of the various types of molding machines, which have become so popular within the last few years. Malleable iron practice has now become well standardized and this type of casting, particularly for small work requiring much dupli cation, is very important. An excellent discussion of steel castings is particularly pertinent as this type of casting is fast displacing drop forgings for many classes of work. Q} Altogether the article represents a well-rounded and thoroughly up-to-date discussion of this important subject. The original author and the reviser, both men of broad experience, have combined to give the reader the benefit of their knowledge and it is the hope of the publishers that the book will be found instructive and interest ing to the practical foundry man as well as to the general reader.
