On other occasions he comes forth surrounded by all the em hlems of his high position, to the sound of drums and trumpets, saluted by salvos of artillery, and accompanied by courtiers and satellites, while crowds of attendants on foot and on horseback precede and follow him. His appearance then excites a great commotion the soldiers run out of the guard-houses to present arms, and the people, great and small, rush to the windows to see him pass, and salute him with shouts of joy.
